Gear Oil vs. Engine Oil
Gear oil is a specialized lubricant specifically formulated for automotive manual transmissions, differentials, transaxles, and transfer cases. Unlike engine oil, which is used to lubricate internal combustion engines, gear oil is designed to withstand the unique pressures and loads encountered in gear systems.
